As part of Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, Cairn works with local communities with an aim of increasing their overall wellbeing and quality of life. This commitment is fundamental to our long-term success and we are focused on creating shared value.

Jeevan Amrit Project

  • The Jeevan Amrit project provides access to safe drinking water to local communities through RO plants of capacity 1-2 kilo litres per hour.
  • More than 16,300 families have access to safe drinking water from 114 RO plants in Rajasthan, 10 in Gujarat, and two in Andhra Pradesh.
  • In addition, five bore wells built in areas suffering acute water shortage, provide water to ~5,000 families, under the “Access to Water for All” project in collaboration with the Public Health Engineering Department, Government of Rajasthan.
  • Solar-powered water ATMs ensure convenient access to safe drinking water, while mobile “Jal Rath” vehicles take water to people located far from plant locations.

Nandghar

  • A network of modern crèches (Anganwadi) in partnership with the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India.
  • Flagship initiative of the Vedanta Group, committed to the Prime Minister’s vision of eradicating child malnutrition, providing education and healthcare to children, and skill development for women
  • 50 Nand Ghar units built and operational in Barmer District, Rajasthan, benefitting ~1,500 children and ~500 women.
  • Constructed with state-of-the-art Schnell Technology, and equipped with e-learning tools, televisions, solar panels, safe drinking water, and clean toilets.
  • Supplementary pre-packed balanced nutritional feed provided in all Nand Ghar units.

HEALTHCARE

  • Villages in Cairn’s areas of operation lack optimum methods of transportation and mobility. Mobile Health Vans (MHVs) enable affordable medical services to far flung villages in Rajasthan and Gujarat. 10 MHVs take basic medical services to more than 300,000 people in Rajasthan and Gujarat, reaching ~244 villages every week.
  • Medical facilities in Barmer are supported via three significant interventions:
    • Green Barmer, Clean Barmer campaign, focusing on health and hygiene through the support of 62 housekeeping and sanitation workers.
    • Three specialist doctors in the Barmer Government District Hospital – a woman gynecologist, an ENT specialist, and a general surgeon – support more than 54,000 outpatient visits annually.
    • Two dysfunctional First Referral Units in Barmer have been operationalized to attend to critical cases, in partnership with National Health Mission and the Department of Medical, Health & Family Welfare, Rajasthan.
  • The PAHONCH project in Gujarat has improved access to nutrition and health entitlements for ~7,100 pregnant women, nursing mothers, young children (0-6 years), and adolescent girls.
  • A collaboration with the Health Department in Andhra Pradesh has helped functionalize the Primary Health Centre in Surasaniyanam village, by supporting 11 medical staff who offer first aid, including for emergencies.

Skill Development

More than 13,500 youth trained at Cairn skill development centres in Rajasthan, with a placement record of 80%.

Cairn Enterprise Centre imparts vocational skills like electrical repair and fittings, computing, mobile phone repair, masonry, as well as soft skills like English-speaking and digital literacy, with support from the Government of Rajasthan and the International Finance Corporation

The Cairn Centre of Excellence (CCoE) offers vocational training in advanced courses like IT, automobile repair, welding, solar and wind machine installations, with support from the Rajasthan Skill & Livelihood Development Corporation (RSLDC) for state certified courses, and from Rajasthan Integrated Leaders Development Skill University for running diploma, advanced diploma, and bachelor skill development courses.

Project Divyang (Sports)

Cairn has supported the Indian National Hockey team in 2012. It currently supports three Indian national para-athletes from Rajasthan - Sundar Singh Gurjar, Shatabdi Avasthi, and Sandeep Singh Mann, under Project Divyang, in partnership with the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI). Sunder Singh Gurjar and Sandeep Maan were selected to represent India in 10th Fazza Para Athletics Championships – Dubai 2018 (World Para Athletics Grand Prix). Sundar secured three gold medals in javelin, shot put and discus throw events, and Sandeep secured three gold medals in 100m, 200m, and 400m.
